Metadata

Metadata is utilized in a variety of ways in the Shelf2Life program.  Some metadata is supplied by the partner organization, other metadata is created by BCR and additional metadata is created by the project partners.

The institution should supply a MARC record for each title added to the program.  The MARC record supplied by the participating institution is used by BCR exclusively for internal project management.  If the library does not have MARC record or if materials are not cataloged, arrangements can be made between BCR and the institution to supply another type of metadata.

For online book sellers, BCR creates ONIX-like records that provide a brief description of the books.

BCR is exploring options for providing MARC records that institutions can load into their local catalogs for the Shelf2Life eBooks.
