BCR, OCLC Collaboration Brings New Training Opportunities

As BCR and OCLC continue to work together in partnership, we would like to inform you about some important changes regarding how your library can participate in OCLC training offered by BCR. These changes are effective July 1, 2009, and will allow your library expanded access to OCLC training and other educational opportunities.

BCR has been certified to continue to provide OCLC training. This certification ensures that all training adheres to specific standards and maintains consistency of training objectives across all OCLC product and service areas. As an OCLC-certified training provider, BCR will make course offerings available on the BCR website (www.bcr.org/training) as well as through the OCLC Training Portal (a web-based, customer-centered resource that allows you to locate and register for courses that meet your personal learning objectives).

The OCLC Training Portal displays OCLC-certified courses from all training partners across the U.S. All of the courses listed on the Training Portal are available to anyone interested in learning more about using OCLC products and services. The Training Portal also offers new features such as bookmarking and social networking opportunities. The OCLC Training Portal will be accessible starting July 1, 2009, by visiting training.oclc.org. For questions regarding the OCLC Training Portal, call 800.848.5800 or e-mail training@oclc.org.

BCR will continue to offer nationally recognized training in all areas including cataloging, emerging technologies, metadata schemas, resource sharing and copyright, digitization and more. You can access the BCR training catalog and schedule on the BCR website or send an email to training@bcr.org for more information.
